What is Black Friday and why is it celebrated?
Black Friday is the biggest shopping event of the year. Originating in the United States, the retail phenomenon kicks off the Christmas shopping season and celebrates the date where retailers would begin coming out of the red and into the black. To mark the occasion, modern retailers pass savings onto customers meaning there are lots of bargains to be had.
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday takes place on the fourth Friday of November, the day after American Thanksgiving. This year, it will fall on 27th November 2026. It used to be a one-day event, but it has since grown, and many retailers in Canada now start their offers ahead of the schedule and running them for several weeks.
